CRC - Coding Refresher Course

The Coding Refresher Course is intended for certified Health Information Management (HIM) Professionals who do not have recent acute care coding experience and who wish to refresh their knowledge and skills in order to work in an entry-level coding role, or to prepare to take the Coding Specialist Program.
This refresher course is a chapter-by-chapter review of the basic application of ICD-10-CA v2018 and CCI v2018 coding rules and conventions and the application of the Canadian Coding Standards for Version 2018 ICD-10-CA and CCI directive statements to clinical documentation.
Requirements
• Must be an active certified member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association (proof required)
• Must be a graduate of an accredited Canadian HIM program
• As part of enrolment, you will be asked to submit a current resume
• The ICD-10-CA/CCI Classification Primer Textbook is required - please purchase this from CHA Learning. The link is available on the program webpage.
• Access to CIHI’s ICD-10-CA and CCI Folio Views Software is required and available for free to CHIMA members. More information will be provided after enrolment. Encoder software is not allowed in this program.
• Apple users will require additional software that converts the operating system to Windows (e.g.: parallels) in order to use the Folio software

To Enrol:
First, complete the Coding Refresher Application to provide your proof of CHIMA membership and transcript OR resume in order to prove eligibility to complete this program. This will be reviewed within 5-7 business days. Upon approval, follow these steps to make your course purchase:
1. Review the faculty members' profiles, linked below. Availability is displayed in the section profiles to the right.
2. Click the + button to expand your selected faculty section and select Add to cart.
3. Follow the instructions on screen to set up your student account and make your purchase.
4. Once you have successfully enrolled and paid, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment and Receipt via e-mail.
5. You will be able to access your course within 30 minutes of purchase using the Access Brightspace link in your Student Portal.
