HIM304 - 304 Introduction to Data Analysis
Description
This course will introduce the concept of using structured data sources for healthcare data in Canada – mainly from the holdings of the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). It will introduce the concept of indicators and the different ways health data is recorded nationally with CIHI, in order to understand how to use them to provide meaningful evidence for your organization.
You will learn the role of a data analyst and how to gather and work with data from authoritative sources (e.g. CIHI: DAD, NACRS, YHS). You will learn how data becomes information and knowledge to provide meaningful context to a process. You will identify and use tools for data analysis, and be able to explore and summarize data using them. By the end of the course, you should be able to retrieve data from CIHI and answer questions in a meaningful way based on that data.
There are four units in this course:
Unit 1: Introduction to Data Analysis
Unit 2: CIHI Databases and Reporting Systems – Part One
Unit 3: CIHI Databases and Reporting Systems – Part Two
Unit 4: Evidence-Based Decision Making
